Not to suggest that it’s a snob, but the 10mm handgun does seem to have a marked preference for higher quality ammo. Fortunately when RUAG chooses to load Hornady’s preeminent self-defense bullet, the outcome is exactly that – higher quality.
XTP stands for “eXtreme Terminal Performance.” (Hornady is taking some liberties with capitalization here, but “ETP” would sound silly.) This round’s 180 grain projectile is a highly accurate jacketed hollow point which, following penetration, becomes just about the last thing anyone could wish to have penetrate them.
The XTP features a swaged lead core. It’s extremely balanced, which along with Hornady’s signature super concentric jacket grants it great in-flight stability. The XTP’s jacket extends to shield all the lead in its nose cavity, which facilitates feeding in a semi-auto as well as ensures the XTP will continue functioning correctly following impact.
The XTP’s jacket is precisely serrated, and has varying thicknesses throughout its entire length. These both serve to deliver highly reliable expansion as the bullet rockets through soft tissue. The XTP’s effect on a target is dramatic – especially when it has the 10mm’s immense power behind it!
RUAG is a massive Swiss company. They have their thumbs in a lot of different pies, but small arms ammunition will likely always make up a large part of their business. With the love for precision that is so distinctive of the Swiss, Ruag produces reliable brass cases, dependable Boxer primers, and clean burning propellant. Alongside one of America’s finest bullets for personal protection, this ammo is a no brainer for any 10mm pistol.
