Speer’s Gold Dot has remained the ammo of choice for countless American law enforcement agencies for nearly 30 years. In 2019 the Idahoan company finally made their high tech G2 projectile available to the public, and now their CarryGun ammo line makes that self-defense bullet perform even better out of the handguns most favored by private citizens.
The G2 bullet doesn’t look like your conventional jacketed hollow point, and it certainly isn’t. Instead of a wide nose cavity that could clog with fabric or other debris, the G2’s tip features a shallow dish filled with elastomer. When the G2 meets resistance from soft tissue, that supple polymer forces itself down into the alloyed lead core’s evenly spaced internal fissures. The result is extremely reliable and uniform terminal expansion – the very kind that even the most crazed threat is apt to notice right away. (“Notice” is kind of an understatement, though.)
The G2 bullet keeps the bonded jacket that made Gold Dot so famous. Because the bullet’s jacket has been electrochemically applied to its core one molecule at a time, it is not only extremely concentric to promote hair-splitting accuracy, but also highly resistant to fragmentation as it penetrates barriers as well as its target. That ensures the G2 will retain the momentum it needs to penetrate to the depths where it can do the most damage!
This round further features a charge of precision loaded propellant, a hyper-sensitive primer by CCI, and a new production brass shell casing. The casing’s nickel plating staves off corrosion during storage and carry, and also enhances lubricity to facilitate jam-free cycling in any semi-automatic firearm.
