How to use Arkansas natural sharpening stones
When sharpening with Arkansas sharpening stones, we recommend using oil. This reduces friction and prevents sharpening residue from accumulating. You can also use water, instead of oil. Experience, however, has taught us that the sharpening results are not as good, and cleaning the stone will be more difficult. Especially if you have been using oil in the past.
The stones are splash & go: a couple drops of oil and you are good to go. As such you don’t have to wait for the stones to absorb the moisture. Position the knife at the right angle and move both sides evenly over the stone until you have reached the desired result. You will notice that the stone becomes darker when you use oil during the sharpening process. This is a completely natural process that won’t affect the ability of the stone. When you finish sharpening all you need to do is use a cloth to remove the oil from the stone. After this, you can store the stone in its sheath.
