EOTech HWS 512 (512.A65) Holographic Weapon Sight
The EOTech HWS 512 is the “keep it simple and reliable” holographic sight: common AA batteries, rear buttons, and the classic 68 MOA ring with a 1 MOA center dot that’s quick up close but still lets you place shots with precision.
If you’ve handled a lot of optics, you already know the vibe here: it’s made for speed, awareness, and a sight picture that feels natural when things move fast — without needing night vision settings.
What you get with the 512
1) A reticle that’s fast and precise
EOTech’s 0-reticle is the big ring + fine dot combo. The ring helps your eye find center fast, and the dot gives you a precise aim point. EOTech also notes the reticle can be used as multiple reference points (they describe a .223/62gr calibration example), and that the ring can roughly approximate shotgun patterns depending on ammo and choke.
2) AA power with real runtime
Runs on two AA batteries (supports lithium, alkaline, or rechargeable). Battery life is listed at 2,500 hours on lithium or 2,200 hours on alkaline at nominal setting 12 at room temp.
3) Built for weather and hard use
Water resistance is listed at 10 ft (3 m), with an operating temperature range of -40°F to 140°F.
Holographic vs “regular red dot”
EOTech positions the HWS line as using holography (not a standard LED dot projection) to give a faster, clearer sight picture and better situational awareness than typical red dots.
