12/27/22 – This is a very nice example of a Springfield M1 Garand. The receiver dates to about January of 1945. Springfield barrel also dated January of 1945. The left side of the stock has a faint rectangular cartouche, but the lettering is illegible. The gun has retained roughly 85% of its finish. The majority of the wear is in the form of thinning along the barrel and gas cylinder. Some minor scuffs on the trigger group. The wood shows signs of use – bruising and scratching throughout. There are a couple of hairline cracks in the front handguard and a couple of noticeable gouges in the upper handguard. The color of the handguards does not match the rest of the stock. Excellent bore with strong rifling. Muzzle reading: 3. Throat reading: 1.
