Description
The Spyderco Temperance Trainer FB05TRD, Red FRN is a training knife from Spyderco completely true to the design of the true, sharpened model. Like the original, the knife’s ergonomic handle is injected directly onto the tang of the blade and features a series of ‘dimples’ that improve grip and provide pivot points for grip changes. A nice detail is the Sal Glesser logo embedded in one of the dimples. This version of the Temperance trainer comes with a custom-made Boltaron sheath and a versatile G-Clip belt clip.

Blade made of 420J2 steel
This blade is made of 420J2 steel, a basic stainless steel type that is easy to sharpen.
The ‘stonewash’ process was chosen for the finish of this blade. The stonewash process involves the blade being placed inside a drum with ceramic stones, or media, and then vibrated or tumbled for several hours. The result is a finish that looks precisely polished or roughened depending on the version. The advantage of stonewashing, however, is that signs of use are much less noticeable. That makes it a popular choice for knives that see a lot of use.
Designer Sal Glesser
Sal Glesser is the legendary founder of Spyderco. Together with his wife Gail, he founded this iconic knife brand. He is the inventor of the round thumb hole and many more innovations. Many of Spyderco’s standard models were designed by Sal himself. Read more about Sal Glesser here.

Spyderco is one of the world’s leading knife companies. Many innovations were made by this brand, think of the pocket clip, the thumb hole, a large range of locking mechanisms, but also steel types. It’s safe to say the knife world would have looked very different indeed without Spyderco.
Spyderco was founded in 1976 by Sal and Gail Glesser. Interestingly, they didn’t start out selling knives. The first product Sal and Gail sold was a soldering tool, which they sold travelling around markets. Then came a sharpening system, causing Sal to start experimenting with pocket knives. In his quest for a knife that was easier to open with one hand, he came up with the idea for a round thumb hole while experimenting. A stroke of pure genius.
Today, the next generation is at the helm of Spyderco. Eric Glesser, the son of Sal and Gail, works hard every day to further establish Spyderco as a leading knife brand.
